Due to the retirement of our TerraCycle collection at the Newburyport Recycling Center, we have investigate other options you might like for some of these “hard-to-recycle” household packaging goods.
The first place is super local! FACE/FOOD at 8 Market Square walks the sustainability walk with their products as well as packaging – and not only for their own wares! FACE/FOOD works with TerraCycle to take all sorts of beauty and personal care package. For a list of what they can take – and what they cannot – please click.
Nordstroms are also participating in the hard-to-recycle beauty packaging cause. Please visit their Nordstrom BEAUTYCYCLE page to see what they accept.
A limited number of local Subaru locations are accepting various items for TerraCycle as well, through their Subaru Loves The Earth campaign.
As of this writing, these are the Subaru dealers participating near Newburyport:
AutoFair Subaru •503 Broadway Haverhill MA, (978) 519-8300
McGovern Subaru •85 Gosling Road, Newington NH, (833) 678-7544
Exeter Subaru •37 Portsmouth Ave (Rt 108) Stratham NH, (603) 778-0300
Other items that are Beyond the Recycling Bin:
- Corks (natural only) can be recycled at Whole Foods Market locations
- Printer cartridges can be recycled at Staples office supply locations
TerraCycle and Bausch + Lomb have partnered to create a free recycling program for Biotrue® ONEday contact lenses and blister packs, as well as lenses and packs from other Baush + Lomb brands. While there aren’t any places in Newburyport, drop off locations are north and south of us.
If you hear of other collection streams or spots, please let us know at TowardZeroWasteNewburyport@outlook.com so we can add them to the list.
If you would like to see TerraCycle reinstated at the Newburyport Recycling Center and are willing to volunteer during First Saturdays to bag, label, and deliver to PakMail, please email us! It is about five to six hours per month and we are happy to help get you started!
